Christmas Under the Stars returns to Brownsburg

BROWNSBURG — Residents here will have another opportunity to ring in the holiday spirit on Saturday with the fifth annual Christmas Under the Stars Parade.

This year’s event starts at 6 p.m. with the parade heading down Main Street and continuing to State Road 267.

Lora Lacey, community recreation manager for the Brownsburg Parks Department, said there will be about 45 floats.

“There are (floats from) businesses, organizations, and then we have Santa and Mrs. Claus and also a float for their elves,” she said.

But the festivities don’t stop there.

“After the parade we will have entertainment from the Delaware Trail third- and fourth-grade choir and also the choral group (from Brownsburg High School) ‘The Blend,’” Lacey said. “We’ll (also) have food at the event. It’s (from) the Soul Sista food truck. All of the entertainment will happen back at town hall (starting at about 7:15 p.m.)”

She added there will also be photos with Santa inside Eaton Hall starting at about 7:30 p.m.

The event also serves as the time when the giant Christmas tree in front of town hall is lit.

The parks department has also been running a contest to decide the grand marshal of the parade.

“We’ve been doing ornament decorating at the library (this Tuesday and Wednesday),” Lacey said. “(Wednesday) it’s from 5 to 7 p.m. We are going to do judging on (the Brownsburg Parks Department) Facebook. Whoever has the most ‘likes’ between Thursday at 9 a.m. to Friday at 9 a.m. will be our Junior Grand Marshal in the Christmas Parade. They’ll get to ride on the Junior Grand Marshal float.”

Lacey added because the parade route usually fills up pretty quickly, it might be a good idea to be early.

In other holiday news around the county, the Christmas Tree Lighting at Avon Town Hall will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
