INDIANAPOLIS — The Ben Davis High School Class of 2014 graduated on its own campus this year taking over the Giants football stadium. Nearly 1,000 students made up the senior class.
Senior Class President Karla Mariana Fernandez Gonzalez summed it up for her fellow classmates.
“This is it guys we finally made it,” Gonzalez said. “We may be anxious but we are going to walk across this stage.”
She reflected on their time together as a class and how they’ve grown.
“We will have these memories for years to come,” Gonzalez said. “We are going to do some remarkable things. And remember we have a legacy of excellence to live up to.”
Chastity S. Li served as the class valedictorian.
“You deserve this for the hard work over the past 12 years,” Li said. “But this recognition is not for you alone. It’s for our parents and teachers.”
The BDHS Teacher of the Year, Jennifer Shultz, was given an opportunity to encourage the graduates during the ceremony. She brought words of wisdom from many of her fellow teachers. She finished with her own thoughts.
“Find the fun in everything you do,” Shultz said. “Fun is not going to knock on your door and find you. From all the BDHS teachers, congratulations and we wish you the best in where life’s journey takes you.”
Dr. Jeff Butts, the superintendent of the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township certified that each student had completed all requirements to take part in the ceremony.
“This is a special class,” Butts said. “This is the 122nd graduating class of Ben Davis High School.”
