IMPD investigating Monday night stabbing

INDIANAPOLIS — Just after 10:30 p.m. Monday, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were dispatched to 1740 Lafayette Road for a person stabbed. The caller told dispatchers that someone had been stabbed at a motel.

When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive male suffering from at least one stab wound. He was immediately transported, in critical condition, by EMS crews to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital where he subsequently was pronounced dead. The victim’s name will not be released until after his family has been notified and conformation of his identity has occurred.

Officers located and took into custody, without incident, a person of interest a few blocks away in the 1900 block of King Avenue.

Detectives will interview and question the person of interest and several potential witnesses, but have not yet made notification that an arrest has been made.  The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency is processing the crime scene and the Marion County Coroner’s Office will make a final determination, after an autopsy, on a cause and manner of death. Once detectives release additional information there may be updates.

This is an active investigation and anyone with information is urged to call detectives at 327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Indiana at 262-TIPS (8477). Callers may also text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274627 (CRIMES).
