Todd Snider to headline Ferdinand Folk Festival

The fourth annual Ferdinand Folk Festival will be Sept. 21 and feature critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Todd Snider.

Snider will be joined on the folk festival’s main stage by The Dirty Guv’nahs (Knoxville, Tenn.), the Boscoe France Band (Madisonville, Ky.), Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys (Ann Arbor, Mich.), The Carper Family (Austin, Texas), Opal Fly & the Swatters (Evansville), and Bethany Boeglin (Ferdinand).

The Ferdinand Folk Festival is an earth-friendly and family-friendly event promoting music, the arts, and the environment. It is a free-to-attend event and is in Ferdinand’s 18th Street Park. Visitors will experience a variety of music from both the main and market stages. Close to both stages, the market area features local artists and artisans displaying and selling their work, while groups dedicated to creating vibrant communities and a sustainable environment will provide education on a variety of topics.

New additions to this year’s fest include a completely revamped group of activities for children. These activities include, but aren’t limited to: the Big Bounce Fun House Play Town (a series of inflatables, a double bungee trampoline, airbrush tattoos, rentable Segways, and miniature train rides), storytelling, a couple of magic shows, an interactive presentation from Lincoln State Park, and family folk dancing.

Also new this year and oerating in conjunction with the Ferdinand Folk Festival is the first Ferdinand Folk Fest Fondo, a two-day recreational bicycling event designed to entertain all levels of bicyclists. It is held through the rolling hills of Dubois County with forays into Perry and Spencer counties. The routes and distances were designed to be welcoming to novice cyclists and challenging for the experienced riders. The event starts and finishes at the Monastery Immaculate Conception sitting high atop the town of Ferdinand.

The Folk Jammers, who have been on board since the Ferdinand Folk Festival’s inception, will again play host to novice and skilled musicians for their all-day-long open jam sessions. Main stage musicians The Carper Family will hold an interactive “How to Harmonize” workshop, and there will be a variety of food vendors on hand, along with approximately 60 art and environmental vendors.
