Bulldogs sweep Giants

With a tinkered lineup, the Brownsburg girls’ and boys’ swim teams routed Ben Davis Tuesday night.

Brownsburg took 19 of 24 events, as the Bulldog girls notched a 137-40 win and the boys rolled to a 118-65 victory.

“We’ve taken the last couple of opportunities to branch out a little bit, and I’m pleased with what I saw tonight,” Brownsburg coach Josh Saylor said. “These meets at the end of the year let you show up and have fun, and not feel the pressure of doing the same event over and over again.”

Ben Davis, which has fought a numbers battle all season, was more focused on effort, not the final score.

“I think they swam better than they have most of the season,” BD coach George Fastrich said. “We’re really starting to pick it up in the races and get more confidence.”

Brownsburg girls individual winners included AJ Moll in the 200 IM, Madison Kehr in the 50 freestyle, Danielle LeClerc in diving, Megan Wolf in the 100 butterfly, Clarice Cross in the 100 free, Tia Scoggan in the 500 free, Kaylee Propst in the 100 backstroke and Kierra Watson in the 100 breaststroke.

In relays, Watson, Delaney Krug, Grace Fulwider and Propst took the 200 medley; Alyssa Smock, Watson, Moll and Chloe Wittig won the 200 free relay; and Fulwider, Moll, Ashly Kraatz and Kehr took the 400 free.

Saylor was especially pleased with Propst, a freshman who’s come on strong in the second half of the season.

“She’s motivated. She wants to get her letter,” Saylor said. “She had a great meet tonight, a lifetime-best by a ton.”

Brownsburg boys individual winners included Jimmy Breedlove in the 200 free, Joe Ancel in the 100 butterfly, Vince Partlow in the 100 free, Jared Krug in the 500 free and Adam Moll in the 100 backstroke.

The Bulldog boys swept the relays, with Cameron Howard, Kyle Baney, Diego La Torre and Ancel taking the 200 medley; Brad Green, Chad Hale, Donnie Spencer and Howard winning the 200 free; and Partlow, Breedlove, Spencer and Baney taking the 400 free.
