The Indianapolis Department of Public Works has closed West 79th Street for repairs eastbound at Noel Road and westbound at Fox Run Road. The street is expected to remain closed through March 1.
Residents and commuters can expect restricted access between Moore Road and Marsh Road with signage and a posted detour route of Moore Road to 86th Street to Zionsville Road.
This work along West 79th Street is a road stabilization project that includes improvements planned for the road foundation and adjacent bank, as well as road repairs and resurfacing.
"The West 79th Street project will enhance commuter safety throughout the area," Department of Public Works Director Lori Miser said in a press release. "Residents who use this corridor should expect smoother and safer travels once this RebuildIndy project is complete."
Launched in 2010, RebuildIndy is Mayor Greg Ballard's initiative to improve city infrastructure by restoring deteriorating streets, sidewalks, and bridges; addressing neighborhood drainage and flooding issues; and demolishing unsalvageable, abandoned homes that pose a public safety threat.
