Foundation to host festival

SPEEDWAY — On May 10, Main Street in Speedway will be the site of the Festival on Main, presented by the Indy Family Foundation (IFF).

The festival runs from 6 to 10 p.m., with activities for people of all ages.

Heather Carpenter, president of the IFF, highlighted some of the main attractions.

“We’ll have a car show (and) we’re going to have a huge kids’ zone,” she said. “(There will also be) a beer garden with local breweries, and we’ll have eight food trucks … Dallara is going to be open with the two-seaters running and a lot of other racing experiences. We’re going to have a local celebrity/IndyCar driver dunk tank and we’re working on having music.”

She added that registration for the car show may be done online at the foundation’s website at www.indyfamilyfoundation.com for $25, or the day of the show at $35. Prizes include Bronze Badges for the entire month of May or suite passes.

Carpenter said the foundation would like the festival to be the kick-off event for one of Speedway’s busiest months.

“We’re hoping it’s a good kickoff festival to continue for years (for) the start of the month of May,” she said.

Carpenter said the idea for the festival started at the beginning of the year.

“Back in January, our group got together and we were trying to come up with fundraisers and we kind of decided this would be a fun one for … not only racing fans, but the community to come and enjoy themselves,” she said.

She said the festival will benefit the foundation and touched on what the IFF offers.

“It raises money for the Indy Family Foundation,” she said. “We are all volunteers and basically anyone who’s ever been in any type of racing, or their family members, if they were to get injured, or an illness … they can apply to us for help. They can remain anonymous through our group; we have an outside social worker deal with them. We can help them with pretty much anything, whether it comes to medical bills, bankruptcy filing, food and groceries, you name it, we can help them.”
