Edible Bugs and Insects: Preschool Cooking Workshop at 1 p.m. Sept. 28. Preschoolers ages 3 to 6 are invited for a special story program presented by Your Gourmet Girlfriends. Young ones will learn about bugs and insects and create their own edible creepy crawler snacks. This program is an activity of the Donna D. Talley Story Theatre. Registration is required. — Toddler Time at Pike will be at 10:15 a.m. Sept. 17 and 24. Toddlers ages 18 through 36 months and an adult are invited for stories, songs and movement activities that foster a love of books and reading.
Job Center at the Library will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 18 and 25 and from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 23, and 30. In partnership with WorkOne and EmployIndy, the Library presents a free service for unemployed or underemployed individuals to receive one-on-one assistance to enhance their employment skills. The session will focus on job search strategies, interviewing skills, resume development, and instruction on basic computer skills. The Job Center is made possible by The Indianapolis Foundation Library Fund and Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.

— Barks to Books at Pike from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 21. Beginning or struggling young readers are invited to read to a trained therapy dog for a 15-minute session. Studies have shown that a child’s confidence and competence increase when reading to a patient and non-judgmental canine listener.
