— Barks to Books at Pike from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 7 and 21. Beginning or struggling young readers are invited to read to a trained therapy dog for a 15-minute session. Studies have shown that a child’s confidence and competence increase when reading to a patient and non-judgmental canine listener.
— Pike Book Club will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16. Adults are invited to this monthly book discussion program. The book to be discussed is “Half Broke Horses” by Jeannette Walls.
— Edible Bugs and Insects: Preschool Cooking Workshop will be at 10:15 a.m. Sept. 26. Preschoolers ages 3 to 6 are invited for a special story program presented by Your Gourmet Girlfriends. Young ones will learn about bugs and insects and create their own edible creepy crawler snacks. This program is an activity of the Donna D. Talley Story Theatre. Registration is required. — Family Kinect Gaming will be at 3 p.m. Sept. 3. Families are invited to play 10-minute segments of fun, family-friendly games.
— Baby Steps Storytime at Wayne will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 5, 12, 19 and 26. Babies and toddlers up to 2 years old and an adult are invited for stories, popular rhymes, fingerplays, and songs.
— PAWS to Read at Wayne will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 7. Children who are reluctant readers are invited to read to Gracie or Dandy, Golden Doodles. — Celebrate German Culture: The Meister Winds will be at 2:00 p.m. Sept. 8. Families are invited to enjoy The Meister Winds, a traditional Bavarian-type band that will present German music, including selected dances and activities with audience participation.
