Nored linked to South Alabama assistant job

Late Monday evening, it was reported that Brownsburg boys’ basketball head coach Ronald Nored would be taking an assistant coaching position with new South Alabama head coach and former Butler assistant Matthew Graves at the Sun Belt Conference school.

When contacted by the Hendricks County Flyer, Nored, a Homewood, Ala., native, responded via text message, “I can’t comment at this time unfortunately.”

Brownsburg Community School Corporation Superintendent Dr. Jim Snapp says that the report is not true at this moment.

“As far as the information, it’s all very speculative at this point in time, at least what was reported in the media,” Snapp said. “If and when that information becomes official, then we’ll be able to address that.”

Snapp confirmed that the 23-year-old Nored remained the Bulldogs’ coach as of Tuesday.

“Coach Nored is our coach until he officially accepts a position someplace else and we are excited that he is our coach,” Snapp said. “Should what’s being speculated take place, we’ll move forward wishing Ronald the very best and then move forward to pick the best person to lead our program for our student athletes in the future.”

Nored is a four-year Butler standout who appeared in two NCAA Final Fours and was twice named Horizon League’s defensive player of the year. He is also a graduation coach for the Class of 2016 at Brownsburg High School. Nored graduated from Butler in 2012 with a degree in elementary education after a successful collegiate basketball career that had him known for his high basketball IQ and defensive tenacity.

Snapp said he knew Nored’s reputation when he was hired and is not surprised of the opportunities that appear available.

“When we hired Ronald a year ago, we knew that he’s a young man that would always have a number of opportunities,” Snapp said. “Had he not come to Brownsburg, he would have been a graduate assistant or a director of basketball operations at a collegiate level a year ago.”
