IMPD snares 12 in massive bust

INDIANAPOLIS — Twelve people were arrested and a litany of firearms, cash, vehicles, and electronics were seized following an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department takedown stemming from a long-term, multi-agency investigation that began in May.

Jonathan Barker, Angela Barker, Jamarson Fitzgerald, Dashaun Bush, Dietrich Rhodes, Jomo Cole, Gordon Parker, Andrew Jefferson, Carlos Pope, and Charles Henderson, all of Indinapolis, are facing charges that include conspiracy to commit dealing in a narcotic drug, conspiracy to commit welfare fraud, conspiracy to commit fraud, and corrupt business influence.

Parker and Pope are still at large and wanted by police at this time. Four others were arrested during the takedown for various charges including possession of marijuana.

Earlier this year, the IMPD North District Narcotics Unit obtained information from an ATF agent in regard to narcotics and firearms being sold from Jonathan’s Barbershop at 3939 N. Keystone Ave., as well as the ReFurbAtronics store at 3937 N. Keystone Ave.

The investigation led detectives to other locations at 6753 and 6755 E. 38th St.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned of other illegal activities such as pirated DVDs and bootlegged purses and EBT cards being traded for services.

The investigation expanded to include the IMPD CAT team and Department of Agriculture. The unit concluded the investigation on Nov. 15 by conducting a takedown operation on the suspects involved.

There were four search warrants served. Seizures included 12 vehicles, multiple laptop computers, marijuana, pirated DVDs, stolen hats, 68 flat screen televisions, four handguns, a shotgun, and $6,700 in cash.

Detectives also utilized the services of the IMPD SWAT team in order to apprehend one of the targets who also faced federal firearms charges as a result of the investigation.
