Christian rapper Jeffrey Pitts Jr., better known as JP, is in the middle of a whirlwind year; releasing his first album and becoming pastor at Walk in the Light Christian Church on Michigan Road.
“Since the album has been released, I’ve done quite a few shows, I put out a mixed tape called ‘I’m Buzzin’ and ‘Without Religion’ (his album) has made the news,” he said. “We had many people come to the album release party, and hopefully the album is selling a lot of copies. I’ll hear about quotas later this month.”
“Without Religion” has been released on ITunes and Spotify, and Pitts has his first music video on Youtube.
“People have been digitally downloading it too,” he said. “You can get it for $10 on ITunes. I’m now getting ready to have constant shows coming up … It’s really about networking.”
Pitts also recently stood in line for eight hours to try out for the RV show “America’s Got Talent.”
“I stood in front of everyone and performed, and then I went in front of the producer … I’m now waiting for a call back,” he said.
JP will be going to Immerse Conference in Nashville in June where he will be performing in front of all of the CEOs in temporary Christian labels. The competition requires him to submit his songwriting and perform in front of them.
“I want to direct people to God; I want to be a billboard that says ‘look to God’ … I want to see him more, to talk to him more,” Pitts said. “It’s been a fruitful journey filled with revival and trial.”
Pitts is a pastor of the night service at Walk in the Light Christian Church, 5860 N. Michigan Road. His service began a few weeks ago. It starts at 6 p.m. and is called “Light up the night.”
