---- — Brownsburg Healthcare Center at 1010 Hornaday Road, a local skilled nursing facility offering short-term rehabilitation and long-term care, has announced the opening of a 18-bed neighborhood, specially designed to meet the needs of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
“We’re very excited to be able to bring this program to Hendricks County,” Linda Wilkinson, administrator of Brownsburg Healthcare Center, said in a press release. “There are a significant number of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease in our area and this illness not only affects the elderly person but also their family members. And they need services for their loved one and support for themselves.”
The renovation of Brownsburg’s secure neighborhood, which was completed in September, included the creation of specialized activities room, a separate dining room, home-like resident rooms, and a secure courtyard for residents to enjoy the outdoors.
The medical director for the program is Dr. William Arnold, a psychiatrist who has devoted his career to the care of people with Alzheimer’s disease. The program will be managed by Dawn Commons who has training in psychology and previous experience managing similar programs. The program’s nurse is Becky Wesling who has 20-plus years of experience meeting the needs of the elderly with dementia and other medical conditions.
“We have very experienced individuals overseeing our program and we’re very lucky to have them as part of the Brownsburg Health Care Center Family,” Wilkinson said.
Brownsburg joins its sister facility, Plainfield Health Care Center, in bringing specialized programs for people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
Arnold is also the medical director of Plainfield’s Alzheimer’s program.
Brownsburg Health Care Center accepts Medicare, Managed Care, Medicaid, and most other insurances and private pay.
