BROWNSBURG — Town officials here are seeking applications from residents who are interested in serving on the municipality’s boards and commissions.
Seats are open for terms beginning January 2014 on the town’s Advisory Plan Commission (APC), Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA), Redevelopment Authority (RDA), Redevelopment Commission (RDC), Economic Development Commission (EDC), Brownsburg Improvement Committee, Park Board, Park Impact Fee Board, and Police Commission.
Under Indiana Law, the APC is responsible for the town’s comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance, subdivision control, approval of development plans, and assignment of street addresses. The BZA deals with granting variances and special exceptions/conditional uses and handles appeals from administrative decisions. The APC and BZA seats are four-year terms.
The RDC assists with planning and development for businesses in the corporate limits and promotes land use that is in the best interest of the town. The RDA is a three-member board responsible for financing, constructing and leasing local public improvements. The RDC seats are one-year appointments. The RDA term is three years.
The EDC promotes and supports economic development to increase the number of quality jobs and non-residential share of the tax base and to support current local businesses. The Brownsburg Improvement Committee administers grants and loans from the RDC to promote the preservation of Brownsburg’s downtown and to improve its physical appearance and economic development. The EDC appointment is a one-year term. The Improvement Committee seat is a one-year appointment.
The Brownsburg Park Board oversees the objectives and policies for effective operation of parks facilities and administration of recreation programs. The vacancy is a four-year appointment. The Park Impact Fee Board hears appeals from developers and builders relative to impact fees assessed to their proposed development for infrastructure identified in the town’s zone improvement plan. Appointments are two-year terms.
