Dickey's Barbecue celebrates opening with three-day event

PLAINFIELD — Dickey’s Barbecue opened Thursday in Plainfield with a huge opening party.

The first 50 customers that first day received gift cards loaded with up to $50.

“I’m looking forward to bringing a different type of restaurant to the Plainfield community,” owner Bruce Hazelgrove said. “I know customers will love that we are family-owned and serve authentic Texas barbecue.”

Radio station 95.5 FM was on site Friday, there was a drawing for a $500 gift card good at Dickey’s Barbecue, and three winners were chosen for free barbecue for a year. There were also $2 pulled pork big barbecue sandwiches.

The fun continues today with a full day of merchandise giveaways.

Bruce and Patty Hazelgrove grew up in Indiana. He most recently worked as a construction project manager. The couple has three daughters and two grandchildren who will all help out in the restaurant.

The franchisees said they opened a Dickey’s Barbecue for a new opportunity for community involvement. They both enjoy cooking and working in customer service.

Dickey’s Barbecue was founded by Travis Dickey with the goal of serving authentic slow smoked barbecue. More than 72 years later, the Dallas-based family run barbecue franchise still offers a quality selection of signature meats, homestyle sides, tangy barbecue sauce, and free children’s meals each Sunday. All meats are slow smoked on site in each restaurant.

The fast-casual family-friendly concept has expanded to more than 300 locations in 40 states and holds the title of the world’s largest barbecue franchise. This year Technomic named Dickey’s the “fastest-growing restaurant in the country” and it was also named “Best Franchise Deal” by QSR Magazine.

Dickey’s Barbecue is at 2551 E. Main St., Ste. 100, Plainfield, in the Shops at Metropolis.
