Office of Tourism Development opens fall 'Best of Indiana' voting

As autumn’s brilliant leaf colors arrive, Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann and the Indiana Office of Tourism Development (IOTD) encourage Hoosiers to get out and enjoy the season.

The fall travel website VisitIndianaFall.com showcases travel and leisure opportunities in Indiana throughout the autumn months. This year the site features a voting competition to determine Indiana’s best signature fall food, best fall family-fun destination, and best college football game day tradition in the state. Voting is open to the public and winners will be announced in November.

“The heart of fall is the perfect time to hit the road and visit all corners of our state,” said IOTD’s executive director Mark Newman. “From farms to festivals and foliage to football fields, Indiana families can find a multitude of excursion ideas at VisitIndianaFall.com to fit any pocketbook.”

Indiana’s nationally-recognized tradition of heritage and cultural festivals includes local and seasonal delicacies. Indiana’s best fall festival signature foods include nominees from across the state. Persimmon pudding, hand-dipped caramel apples, and fresh blueberry ice cream are just three of the options in this category.

While basketball may be the sport most associated with Indiana, college football in the Hoosier State has a legacy second to none. Each of Indiana’s 21 college football programs has a unique game day experience. This category highlights the best traditions on and off the scoreboard. From bells to buckets to Touchdown Jesus, Indiana’s football tradition is packed with great tailgates, rivalries, mascots, and plenty of school pride. Voters will determine which school has the best of everything football.

With living history museums, acres and acres of corn mazes, and presidents made of pumpkins, Indiana is full of family activities. Families can get scared silly, pick out the perfect pumpkin, sip cider with the 16th president, or soar through multi-colored treetops on a zip line. While all nominees are excellent family opportunities, voters will determine the Best of Indiana.
