Pumpkin Smash Bash offers residents Halloween fun

BROWNSBURG — As cooler weather descends upon Hendricks County, the Town of Brownsburg and its parks department are offering residents a first time event with plenty of fall-themed fun.

The event, Pumpkin Smash Bash, will run from noon to 8 p.m. Oct. 26 on the Brownsburg Town Hall lawn.

Lora Lacey, parks department community recreation manager, said the event kicks off with family activities from noon to 5 p.m.

“We will have live entertainment (from) two different bands,” Lacey said. “We will also have a pumpkin carving/decorating contest. We have our Build-a-Bale contest that we have every year and anybody can apply for that. Those will be on display the entire week before … on Town Hall Lawn.”

Lacey said in the past, Build-a-Bale was its own separate event during October, but it’s now been added to the rest of the festivities.

“Usually businesses or well-known clubs around Brownsburg purchase a bale of straw and they decorate it Halloween-themed and then they get to display it on S.R. 267 for that entire week,” Lacey said, of the Build-a-Bale contest. “Then there’s voting at the end (on Oct. 26).”

She said there will also be hayrides this year.

“Everyone will get on at town hall, and then it will travel to Arbuckle Acres and we’ll do the hayrides there,” Lacey said. “At Arbuckle, we’ll also have a pumpkin patch where people can purchase pumpkins.”

She said back at town hall, there will be plenty of other activities as well.

“We also have a kids’ carnival where there will be several Halloween-themed carnival games,” Lacey said. “We’re also going to be having a cruise-in car show, which is also a trunk-or-treat. Kids can go around in their Halloween costumes to each car and go, technically, trick-or-treating. There will also be a costume contest.”
