Coin Club offers history lesson

Hendricks County Flyer

---- — BROWNSBURG — Jim Davis has been collecting coins for more than 30 years.

A hobby that started with a Boy Scout project has grown and morphed into an entrepreneurial venture, appraising and evaluating coins for estate, divorce, and insurance purposes. Davis recently added a Modern Coin Club to his repertoire.

The Coin Club is for young and young at heart coin collectors. Priced as a monthly subscription, users will receive two or more coins in the mail each month, as well as a newsletter and trading card for each coin.

“Coins are a tangible way to connect the history of our nation to things we use every day,” Davis said. “You also learn about the value of money, the value of saving and the value of collectibles. When you connect the coin not just with the face value, but also with what was happening in history at that same time, your understanding of money and its place grows exponentially.”

The Coin Club offers three levels: bronze, silver, and gold.

The club provides members with coins, starting with the America The Beautiful Quarters and Kennedy Halves.

Loose Change Assessment provides third-party coin appraisal services for coin collections of any size.

Davis completed the American Numismatic Association’s Coin Grading Summer Seminar in 2009. He is a life member of the American Numismatic Association.
