---- — SPEEDWAY — Main Street here will be the next home to Daredevil Brewing Co. as town officials announced a development agreement last Friday.
According to information from the Speedway Redevelopment Commission, the brewery has acquired a two-acre site at 1101 Main St., next to the Dallara Racecar Factory.
Daredevil Brewing Co., the makers of “aggressively fun craft beers” like Lift Off IPA, is located in Shelbyville.
The proposed 10,000 square foot facility will include a full production brewery, the company’s first public taproom, and the possibility for expansion.
The popularity of craft beer has risen significantly in the past few years, which makes this partnership a no-brainer.
“A craft brewery on Main Street provides a new type of destination location that complements and adds to the growing diversity of local businesses and restaurants in Speedway,” Vince Noblet, president of the Speedway Redevelopment Commission, said. “We are excited to welcome Daredevil Brewing Co. to Main Street and our Speedway community.”
Speedway Development Commission Executive Director Scott Harris said this is just another step in the development of Main Street.
“I think it’s an important new development along Main Street,” Harris said. “There have been a lot of changes in that area over the last year or two or three years. This just complements what’s taking place and creates a new venue that will draw more people to this area.”
Shane Pearson, co-owner of Daredevil Brewing Co., said Speedway is a perfect home for the company.
“Main Street, Speedway, is an iconic location that uniquely complements everything Daredevil is about,” he said. “After months of due diligence evaluating locations, we found this incredible opportunity to acquire a former brownfield site that supports our business plans and allows us to be a part of the redevelopment of historic Main Street, Speedway.”
Harris said the goal is to have the facility up and running by this time next year.
“There are lots of design and permitting and evaluations that need to take place,” he said. “I think we would collectively hope for some type of ground breaking this summer with the facility open to the public surely by this time next year.”
Gary L. Raikes, president of the Speedway Town Council, said the Daredevil deal is a big step for the town.
“The commitment of Daredevil to locate on Main Street is another important step for our town’s redevelopment effort,” he said. “It’s a strong showing that business wants to be here, at the heart of the racing industry.”
Daredevil Brewing Co. plans to continue to operate its production brewery in Shelbyville.
Daredevil Brewing Co. is an independent craft brewery that was founded by two award winning craft brewers, Bill Ballinger and Michael Pearson, and a craft beer enthusiast, Shane Pearson, to bring flavorful interpretations of craft beer to the market.
