Officials with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) have announced that U.S. 136, from State Road 39 to just west of State Road 267, will be restricted to one lane in the area to allow crews to perform microsurface construction.
Construction is scheduled to begin this week and be completed by the end of May.
Microsurfacing is a thin, polymer-modified asphalt emulsion mixture that provides a new wearing course over aged and oxidized pavement. It’s applied in slurry form, fills ruts in the pavement and improves friction. No compaction is necessary for this method of pavement preservation and it takes about one to two hours to fully cure and reopen to traffic.
A.C. Pavement Striping Co. was awarded the $747,791 contract.
