---- — Home school athlete Dani Brewer, a 5-foot-10 guard will play for Bradley University in the Missouri Valley Conference next season. Averaging 22.9 points and 9.6 rebounds a game, Brewer rounded out last year’s stat sheet with 3.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and 2.3 steals. Brewer plays for the Indianapolis Home School Trailblazers, recently ranked fifth in the nation. High points in Brewer’s career include a 41-point effort in a win over Cardinal Ritter last season, as well as a 51-point career high in a defeat that placed the Trailblazers second in the Quincy, Ill. Crawdad Classic.
“Since I don’t have a school ‘home court’ I was so excited with the idea to sign at Connection Point Christian Church [gym],” Brewer said. “My dad has been bringing me here since I was a little kid. I have watched and even gotten to play with some of Brownsburg’s great ballers over the years in this facility, including Indiana All stars Lauren Taylor, Stephanie Mavunga, Julian Mavunga and of course Gordon Hayward. For sure these players influenced me and motivated me to work hard as I dreamed about playing college basketball. This floor is where I grew up.”
Dani credits her dad, Don Brewer II, for her confidence on the floor.
“His amazing ability to analyze this game translates into purposeful training sessions,” she said. “Together we prepare for the next opponent working on one new skill at a time.”
Dani is also very grateful to her Home School coach, Tim Jensen and her Indiana Flight AAU coach, Michael Duke.
“These men give enormous amounts of time in an unpaid position to make us girls greater as a team than our accomplishments would ever be individually,” Brewer said. “Their efforts for our teams are why I have the opportunity to play for Bradley next year.”
