2013 Flyer All-County softball team selected

Plainfield’s season, and defense of the Class 4A state title, ended in the semistate round after a regional championship as the Quakers again got hot at the end of the year. The Quakers finished 18-11 with sectional and regional championships.

Senior catcher Maggie Stahl hit .435 with 17 RBI and scored 37 runs. Stahl’s synergy with senior pitcher Erin Laswell aided Plainfield’s postseason run as Laswell finished with a 14-5 record from the mound while hitting .307 with six homeruns and 22 RBI. Junior Mackenzie Reeder hit .429 with 28 RBI and scored 36 runs this season from her spot at third base, where she was a defensive force for the Quakers.

Avon finished up the year at 18-8 and advanced to the sectional final against Decatur Central. Senior four-year shortstop and defensive stalwart Sadie Foster hit .500, tallied 17 RBI with eight doubles and was named ICGSA third-team all-state. Junior catcher Mackenzie Johnston committed no defensive errors all year, hit .410 and tallied 18 RBI. Senior pitcher Lizzy Snodgrass finished 11-7 on the mound, hit .367 and had 29 RBI.

Bethesda (15-8) fell in the sectional final trying to defend its title from last season. Sophomore Kylie Minton makes her second appearance on the all-county squad as she got it done from both the mound and the plate. Minton hit .550 with 18 RBI and eight doubles while finishing 10-6 from the mound with one save.

Danville (8-16) fell in the opening round of sectional action to eventual state champion Tri-West. Junior outfielder Delaney Stephens makes her second consecutive appearance on the all-county list and led the Warriors with a .494 average and 18 RBI, both team highs.

Brownsburg (10-12-1) also fell in its sectional opener. Carlie Weaver got it done for the Bulldogs from the mound and her spot at first base all season long. Weaver finished with a team-high 5-3 record and hit .230 with six RBI.

Second-team: Avon’s Taylar Kelso and Hannah Reeser; Bethesda’s Jordan Benge and Sara Harrison; Brownsburg’s  Lindsey Stahl and Kelsey Reinhardt; Cascade’s Sydney Stein and Breanna Sallee; Danville’s Kaitlyn Williamson and Hannah Kelly; Plainfield’s Kendyl Wheeler and Darien Garigus; Tri-West’s Marita VanDyke and Samme Miller.
