The seventh-grade football team won its first game of the season with a 16-0 victory over Plainfield. Eli Alvarez scored the Orioles first touchdown and Jalen Peterson added the two-point conversion. Sampson James sprinted for the end zone on a run for the Orioles’ second TD, and Skylar Stone had the two-point conversion. Leading the defense were Zach Rineheart with multiple sacks and a fumble recovery, Addison Batton, Alex Griffith, Matt Bromm, Tyler Miner and Cedric McBride.
The team won its second game in a row as they defeated Terre Haute. Rineheart scored the Orioles’ first touchdown and had a sack and fumble recovery. Peterson had two interceptions and led the running attack for the offense. James had two touchdowns, a sack and a fumble recovery. Jacob Hayden added an interception and played well from the quarterback position. Bromm ended the game with a sack, and the big hit of the night came from Batton as he punished a Terre Haute player. Other major contributors for the Orioles were Griffith, Alvarez, Conner Barnes, Jaden Sheets and Tyson Harloff.
The eighth-grade football team defeated Plainfield 8-0. On defense, Nick Gray had a forced fumble, Conner Albert had five tackles for a loss and Luke Shayotovich had an interception. The defense forced a safety with two minutes remaining to the seal the victory. On offense, Caleb Alvarez and Jaban Carter had big plays running behind the blocking of Evan Shipman. The lone touchdown was scored by Shayotovich on a quarterback option.
The team moved its record to 2-0 with a 27-12 victory over Terre Haute. Offensively, the team was led by Shayotovich, who threw two touchdowns to Albert and ran for another TD from 40 yards out. The Orioles’ other TD came when Earl Reynolds returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a score. The offensive line, led by Jack Camp, dominated the line of scrimmage. On defense, Albert and Shipman contained Terre Haute’s outside run game. Nick Gray won defensive player of the game.
