Bulldogs second at sectional

BROWNSBURG — The Brownsburg Bulldogs boys’ swim team will be sending freshman Joe Myhre to the state finals next week after breaking the school’s 100 backstroke record with a time of 53.64 seconds in Saturday’s sectional finals at Brownsburg High School.

The freshman was responsible for one of four school records broken between Thursday’s preliminary round and Saturday’s finals.

“Joe (Myhre) is in because he won the race, but I think we’ll be really close with a couple of other guys as well,” Brownsburg coach Josh Saylor said. “We were pretty close to the cut on a couple of events so now we’ll just have to wait and see. We had a couple of relays that were really close on time.”

Brownsburg sophomore Joe Ancel broke the 100 breaststroke record on Thursday.

Sectionals proved to be a great effort from Saylor’s swimmers as the team competed with a solid all-around effort in every event.

Paired up with Ancel and Myhre, junior Brad Green and sophomore Kyle Baney broke another school record in the 200 medley relay.

Brownsburg’s 200 medley realy team and 400 freestyle relay teams both placed second, but with their times, also made the state finals.

For Saylor, the team’s performance was a tremendous improvement from where the Bulldogs were last season.

“We had a really good season, considering where we started from,” Saylor said. “We had some selfishness, a lot of guys looking out for number one. We had a lot of different guys step up this season and we were getting better and better to the point we started to get it in our heads that we could be really good at the end of the year and this meet was our opportunity to do that. We swam a really great meet and I couldn’t be happier with our efforts.”
