— Brownsburg High School senior Kyle Yeager was recently presented with the 2013 Gary C. King Excellence in Character and Baseball Scholarship during the Bulldogs’ senior night reception at Mary Beth Rose Baseball Park in Brownsburg.
The $2,000 scholarship was awarded through the Hendricks County Community Foundation (HCCF) and presented by Carrie Hanni, fund representative. The scholarship fund was created by the late Gary King and his family as Gary neared the end of his life battling ALS. He died in 2010.
This was the third year that the scholarship has been awarded. It is designated for a Hendricks County high school senior that has participated in varsity baseball and possesses qualities that exemplified the life of Gary King: excellence in character, academic and athletic achievement and leadership. King devoted over 10 years as a volunteer Little League coach, including managing the 1999 and 2001 Brownsburg Little League teams that made it to the Little League World Series. He was a mentor and coach to many young men throughout Hendricks County.
The HCCF works to improve the quality of life in Hendricks County by helping donors match their passion with community needs, awarding grants to nonprofit organizations and projects, and collaborating to address community issues. The HCCF manages an $8 million collection of funds created by individuals, families, businesses and organizations for charitable purposes.
In 2012, the HCCF gave more than $640,000 in grants to charitable organizations and scholarships to local students. For more information, call 268-6240 or visit the website at www.hendrickscountycf.org.
