Bruins best Braves for title

TRAFALGAR — The Tri-West Bruins softball team beat down the Indian Creek Braves 13-3 in a 10-run-rule shortened sectional championship Thursday night.

The Bruins continued their sectional momentum and saw another successful night in the batter’s box pay off with a seemingly uncontested effort on the way to bringing home the hardware.

Tri-West was up 6-0 and through their batting order and around again by the bottom of the second inning as the Braves had no answer.

Tri-West’s identity has been hitting through this sectional run, and throughout the season, a fact Bruins coach Stacey Rogers knows very well.

“I don’t know the limit my team has. We lead the state in all classes in batting average, doubles and triples,” Rogers said. “This year we never know who it’s going to be doing the job for us at the plate. If one can’t get the job done they’ve just picked each other up like crazy this year.”

With another solid night from the Bruins at the plate it could have very well been anyone’s night to drive in the winning run. But in the bottom of the fifth inning the stars aligned to bring senior Alyssa Clark to the plate with game-winning runner, Claire Johnson, on second and Clark delivered.

“I just knew that I had to get my friend in, you never leave a girl on second (base),” Clark said. “That’s what was going through my head. We worked really hard to get here and we deserve it so I’m hoping we at least get to semistate although state would be awesome.”

A state title run certainly isn’t impossible.

For Tri-West it all comes down to keeping the momentum on its side as they head into Tuesday’s regional match-up.
