Quakers edge Bulldogs 2-1

PLAINFIELD — The Plainfield girls’ soccer team continues to roll through the regular season, and Brownsburg was its latest victim Monday night.

Plainfield (9-1-2) scored two goals in the first half to take a 2-1 win over its county and district rival.

“I thought we could’ve played better,” Plainfield coach Krissy Sullivan said. “We knew it was a big game we had to win and were pretty pumped up for it tonight. Brownsburg’s always a competitive game for us, regardless of how either team’s seasons have gone.”

Brownsburg (1-9) won the second half 1-0, and first-year coach Megan Osborne sees that as something to build upon.

“It wasn’t the outcome we wanted, but we’re very pleased with the progress we’re making this season and have improved each game,” Osborne said. “The big thing is that the girls are working very hard and being good teammates and are showing a lot of growth.”

In the opening 10 minutes, each team tested the other as they played to both ends of the pitch, and then Plainfield broke through.

Plainfield sophomore Londyn Feasel scored on an assist from senior Kassidy Edwards just over nine minutes into the contest. Feasel pulled Brownsburg keeper Katherine Lyons from the net to the ball, and as she dove, Feasel worked around her for the score.

Lyons was in for Kassy Christy, who is recovering from a concussion, and tallied nine saves on the night.

“Kat has done a nice job for us the last three games as Kassy has been recovering,” Osborne said.

Brittany Davis’ shot with 22:11 left in the half hit Lyons’ hands and ricocheted up, hitting the crossbar and then fell into the net, putting Plainfield up 2-0.

Brownsburg got on the board early in the second half with 32:44 remaining, as Kamarin Witham put her shot past Plainfield keeper Tessa Strube.
