Middle School Updates


— Plainfield Middle School

Eighth-grade girls’ basketball

Plainfield recently beat Cascade 46-30 as Kayla Casteel led the team with 14 points.

The Quakers recently beat Franklin 38-29 and Center Grove 48-31 to end the season 13-0.

 

Seventh grade girls’ basketball

Plainfield recently beat Cascade 57-23 as Kara Sumner and Kayla Benge each recorded 14 points.

The Quakers recently lost to Franklin 36-32 in overtime. Indy Peters scored eight points to lead Plainfield.

Plainfield recently defeated Center Grove Central 37-28 as Kayla Benge scored 10 points and the team ended the regular season 12-1.

 

Swimming and Diving

The boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving team recently competed against Martinsville and Franklin in a tri-meet. The boys placed second and the girls finished third.

Winning for the boys were Kamryn VanWanzeele (50 fly) and the relay team of Chaz Rhodes, Connor Stinson, Curtis Cloud, and Joe Klinger (200 free relay).

The boys’ and girls’ swimming teams recently competed at the Mid-State Conference meet. The boys placed third and the girls finished fourth. Personal best times were posted by Kaitlyn Ross, Abby Moyers, Allyson Carroll, Joe Copeland, Jackson Deal, Caleb Smock, Natalie Gulley, Alyssa Laser, Weston Whyde, Joe Klinger, Bianca Gomez, Leah Wurtzel, Kamryn VanWanzeele, Max Wiser, Derek Wright, Curtis Cloud, Rachel Wasson, Barrett Noggle, Connor Stinson, Riley Lautenschlager, Hannah Sorensen, Easton Stark, Rachel Graves, Chaz Rhodes, Sean Rogers, Sam Tackett, Brian Lux, and Logan Andre.

Swimming and Diving

The Warrior girls’ swim team recently defeated Southmont,124-55. Top finishers for Danville were Brenna Shelley with three first-place finishes and a second, Becca Weiss with two wins and one third-place finish, Kacey Cook and Grace Austin with four races won, Lauren Basicker and Katelin Johnson with three third-place finishes, Shelby McDaniels with two second-place finishes and two thirds, Kyra Shelley with three wins and one third-place finish, Abri DeAtley with two first-place finishes and two second-place finishes, Halle Higbie with one win and two second-place finishes, Meredith Perry with three second-place finishes, and Laney Gilbert with two third-place finishes.

The Warrior boys’ swim team recently defeated Southmont, 94-89. Placing for Danville were Dylan Porter with two wins, Jesse Cox with three wins and a second, Will Nuss with three wins and a third, Keegan O’Brien with one win, a second, and two third-place finishes, Jack Clark with four wins, and Isaiah Byers with a win and two second places.

 

Avon Middle School South

Seventh-grade girls’ basketball

The Orioles recently lost to Danville 33-19. Leading the way was Caroline Yoder with seven points and six rebounds. Katie Thompson and Molly Watson added four points each.

Avon recently lost to Tri-West 36-18. Katie Thompson finished the night with eight points and 10 rebounds. Mikayla Rodriguez added four points.

 

Eighth-grade girls’ basketball

The Orioles recently defeated Tri-West 51-8. Macy Stumm led the scoring with 12 points, Stacie Shelton added nine points and eight rebounds and Haylie Foster recorded seven.

 

Wrestling

The Avon Middle School South wrestling team recently defeated Avon Middle School North 59-50. James Betzold started the night out with a pin for South, followed by wins from Lance Ellington, Kaden Roberts, Aaron Conde, Jacob Clark, Christian Schabel, Spencer Strobel,and Drew Williamson. Caleb Alvarez added a last-second pin in the third period, and Kam Caudle won in dramatic fashion with a takedown in overtime. Nick Rapped sealed the victory with a pin in the final match of the evening.

The Avon Middle School South wrestling team recently beat Paul Hadley Middle School 61-44. Winning for Avon South were James Betzold, Connor Beswick, Lance Ellington, Camden Gongwer, Noah Driskell, Caleb Alvarez, Aaron Conde, Christian Schabel, Jacob Clark, Spencer Strobel, Kam Caudle, Drew Williamson, and Nick Rapp.

The Avon Middle School South wrestling team recently competed in the Wayne Township Invitational, finishing fifth out of 12 teams. Finishing eighth were Bailey Childers, Lance Ellington, and Camden Gongwer. Placing seventh weas Conner Beswick. Coming in sixth were James Boetzold and Andrew Frank. Taking fifth were Avery Cochran, Noah Driskell, and Kam Caudle. Jacob Clark, Spencer Strobel, Christian Schabel, and Nick Rapp placed third. Three Avon South wrestlers — Wil Shriner, Aaron Conde, and Caleb Alvarez — made the tournament finals. Shriner and Conde finished second and Alvarez avenged a loss earlier in the tournament to finish the day in first place.
