LOR announces 2014 dragstrip schedule

---- — Officials with Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis recently announced the 2014 dragstrip schedule. The legendary dragstrip in Brownsburg will hold a variety of events from April through October.

“As NHRA’s flagship facility, we are committed to hosting an ambitious schedule of events with a wide ranging appeal to racers and race fans of all types,” LOR General Manager Randy Simpson said. “Our 2014 dragstrip schedule strikes a balance between weekly drag racing programs for our local racers as well as numerous fan favorite special events that continue to solidify Lucas Oil Raceway as a premier destination facility.”

LOR’s marquee event is the world’s biggest and most prestigious drag race, the 60th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, held Labor Day weekend from Aug. 27 to Sept. 1. This milestone anniversary event will feature numerous special attractions in addition to the already supercharged schedule that includes such bonus races as the Traxxas Nitro Shootouts for Top Fuel and Funny Car, the Factory Stock Showdown and Mopar HEMI Challenge.

Opening day at Lucas Oil Raceway features the first of nearly 30 scheduled Wild Wednesday Test & Tune events beginning April 2. Wild Wednesdays offer open time trials for street cars and race cars.

The season long VP Racing Fuels ET Bracket Series begins on Sunday, April 13. Special ET Bracket Series races will include the NHRA National Dragster Challenge (May 4), NHRA Indiana Drag Racing State Championship (May 26), Summit Junior Drag Racing League Challenge (June 8) and Summit NHRA King of the Track (July 6). The top point earners qualify to represent team Lucas Oil Raceway at the NHRA Summit ET Finals that will be held at Lucas Oil Raceway from Sept. 12 to 14.

NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competition kicks-off in the NHRA North Central Division from April 25 to 27. The annual event features over 600 race cars ranging from 280 mph Top Alcohol and Injected Nitro Dragsters to wheels up Super Stock cars.

The all motorcycle No Hatin’ Drag Racing Organization will hold four events at Lucas Oil Raceway, May 16 to 18, July 11 to 13, Aug. 8 to10 and September 26 to 28.

For twenty years, the Miracle Ride has benefitted Riley Hospital for Children. The motorcycle fundraiser will return May 31 to June 1.

Goodguys makes its triumphant return to Lucas Oil Raceway after a five year hiatus for a one-night-only Friday Night Drags event on June 6. Goodguys Friday Night Drags will feature special exhibition vehicles, sportsman racing, a show & shine and will be open to all years, makes and models of race cars.

Bellowing smoke and the rumble of diesel engines marks the return of the National Hot Rod Diesel Association’s Indiana Diesel Shootout on June 14.

The 10th Annual Jeg’s US Open Bracket Championship returns June 19 to 22. The four day, big-money bracket race features $20,000 to win races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Taking a slight detour from the straight and narrow, two drifting events including Indy Drift (June 28 and 29) and Midwest Drift Union (October 4) will be held at Lucas Oil Raceway.

Leveraging Lucas Oil Raceway’s unique multipurpose facility, the Race 4 Time Performance Challenge features drag racing, autocross, road course and car show activities, July 19 and 20. This exciting event benefits the Riley Hospital for Children.

Drag racing’s rising stars will compete in the Midwest Junior Super Series, September 19 to 21. Lucas Oil Raceway hosts race six of the Midwest Junior Super Series’ seven race schedule.

Edge of your seat, all domestic door slammer action returns October 10 to 12 with the 13th Annual NMCA World Street Finals featuring the 8th Annual Chevrolet Performance LSX Shootout. Last year’s race saw Pro Street competitors exceed 250 mph in this high stakes race to determine series champions.

NHRA class racers looking to set a record, make one last blast down the dragstrip or earn a grade point before season’s end can do so at the NHRA Fall Classic National Open, October 17 to19. In addition to the NHRA categories contested, a Pro and Super Pro bracket race is held on Saturday and Junior Dragsters on Sunday.
