---- — BHS offers speed school

Brownsburg High School strength and conditioning coach Bryan Neese and Browsburg High School football coach Brett Comer are holding a winter session speed school for any male or female athlete currently in the sixth through 12th grades.

Camp cost is $60 per athlete, each additional sibling is $45, and each camper will receive a T-shirt.

The camp will be at the Brownsburg High School main gym from 2 to 3 p.m. Jan. 12, 19, and 26 and from 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 14, 21, and 28.

The camp will focus on the ABC’s of athletics: agility, balance and coordination. Instruction in proper running mechanics with an emphasis on change in direction, improvements in agility and lateral movements and acceleration and deceleration will all be focused upon.

Locals compete at USATF XC

Danville runners Daniel Gerber and Jackson Swisher recently completed the USATF Junior Olympics Cross Country Championship.

Gerber, who participated in the 15 to 16 division, finished 39th in a 5K race with a time of 17:18.03.

Swisher, who competed in the 13 to 14 division, placed 56th in the 4K race with a time of 13:57.25.

BHS holds baseball camp

Brownsburg High School baseball coach Eric Mattingly, his staff, and current and former players are holding a winter skills and drills camp Jan. 2 and 3.

First- through fifth-graders camp runs from 9 to 10:30 a.m. with sixth- through eighth-graders participating from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Cost is $40 with a second child cost of $30, and includes a T-shirt.

Participants should bring a glove, bat (if available), and tennis shoes.

The camp is geared toward each athlete and providing them with age-appropriate drills that will help the foundational skills for a successful baseball player.

AAD holds open house

Avon’s Athletic Department will hold an open house for its state champion girls’ volleyball and soccer teams from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Dec. 20.

All are welcome and should enter through Door 31 into the Avon High School Fieldhouse.

Following the celebration, the fall sport state qualifiers will be recognized at halftime of the varsity basketball game.
