Warrior teams advance at county

DANVILLE — The host Warrior girls’ and boys’ basketball teams advanced to their respective Hendricks County Tournament winners’ brackets with wins over Cascade Thursday night.



Danville’s girls let a double-digit lead slip away in the fourth quarter, but held on for a 68-63 overtime victory.



After trailing by one late in the second quarter, Danville’s boys outscored Cascade 31-8 over the next 10 minutes, and rolled to a 74-40 win.



In the girls’ contest, 10 different players scored as Cascade (6-5) led 13-11 after a quarter. Roxanna Gaddis had eight points in the second period, and Sydney Stein had 10 rebounds in the half, to help push the Cadets to a 28-21 advantage at the break.



Maleha Motter had eight points during a 12-3 Danville run that put the Warriors back in front midway through the third quarter. Motter finished the period with 12 points, and Hannah Newby added eight, as Danville (6-5) took a 47-38 lead to the fourth.



Hayden Stinnett, Mallorie Smith and Gaddis all had 3-pointers as Cascade fought back to take a 54-52 lead with two minutes left, before a basket by Ashlyn Sims tied it. Gaddis and Danville’s Robin Ford traded 3-pointers, and the teams went to overtime when Cascade couldn’t put a shot on-rim in the closing seconds.



Danville outscored Cascade 11-6 in OT, including 5 of 7 shooting at the foul line.



Motter paced Cascade with 23 points, and Newby added 13. Gaddis had 20 points to lead Cascade, while Stein had 17 points and 17 rebounds.



Danville will face Plainfield at 6 p.m. Friday at Tri-West, while Cascade will take on Avon at 8 p.m.



In the boys’ nightcap, Brock Stevens had five of Danville’s seven straight points to end the first half, as the Warriors took a 28-22 to the break. Danville’s scoring streak reached 13 in the third quarter, and Austin Anderson and Mitchell Collier combined for 21 points in the period as Danville (9-1) upped its lead to 24.



Cascade (2-8) couldn’t mount a run in the fourth, and backups manned the closing minutes for both teams.



Anderson (18), Collier (13) and Luke Callahan (12) all scored in double figures for Danville. Colton Jones led Cascade with 15 points.



Danville will face Brownsburg at 2 p.m. Saturday. Cascade will meet Tri-West at 10 a.m.
