Bruins hold off Hot Dogs

BY JIM BUSH

LIZTON Frankfort’s offense woke up, and the defense got gnarly — it just came a little too late on both counts.

The host Hot Dogs spotted host Tri-West 17 first-quarter points and couldn’t comeback, falling 27-21.

Frankfort’s first drive ended with a fumbled punt that led to a Bruins’ 32-yard field goal off the strong leg of Drake Gadberry, who also later added a 27-yarder.

Tri-West’s next two drives finished with touchdowns that came 27 seconds apart, and it was 17-0 before the game was even eight minutes old.

Frankfort added a pair of touchdowns, but Tri-West scored on each of its five first-half possessions — three touchdowns and two field goals — for a 27-14 halftime lead.

Frankfort had a chance to steal a win in the fourth quarter. Trailing 27-21, the Hot Dogs were pinned by a punt on their own five yard line. They promptly went on a 12-play drive, twice converting third downs. FHS had a third-and-two on the Bruins’ 33 when a holding penalty moved the ball back 10 yards. They worked it to a fourth-and-five, but Blake Ayers’ pass fell incomplete. Tri-West then ran out the final 2:58.

The Bruins travel to Danville Friday.
