The Parkinson’s Awareness Association of Central Indiana, along with Rock Steady Boxing and Young Parkinson’s of Indiana, will celebrate Parkinson’s Awareness Month by hosting a public educational event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 12 at the Indianapolis Parkinson Center.
Four experts in the field of Parkinson’s disease treatment and management, elder law, and social services will make presentations throughout the day. Food trucks, music, and family games will add to the celebration.
Featured speakers will include:
• Dr. Elizabeth Zauber, a neurologist and movement disorders specialist with IU Health, will provide information on new developments in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease;
• Dr. Stephanie Combs, associate professor with the Krannert School of Physical Therapy, University of Indianapolis, will discuss research and the importance of exercise in Parkinson’s disease;
• Attorney Jeffrey Stinson will address elder law issues including advanced legal planning and establishing power-of-attorney; and
• Social worker Leo Rafail will discuss services and financial assistance available for people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers.
The Indianapolis Parkinson Center, home of Rock Steady Boxing and the Parkinson Awareness Association of Central Indiana, is in the Hillsdale Business Park off of Shadeland Avenue, south of the intersection of I-465 and I-69.
