The annual Unitarian Universalist Community Church toy drive started Friday and will collect gifts for children newborn to 12 years of age until Dec. 16.
The collection benefits children of needy Hendricks County families. Gifts will be given to the children at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church’s annual Christmas Day Dinner.
Last year the drive provided toys to 226 children, an increase from 144 children served in 2011. The congregation also delivered more than 662 hot meals on Christmas day and served more than 150 at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds in Danville. This also represents an increase over the 375 Christmas meals served in 2011.
Unfortunately, the demand for help continues to grow and the church anticipates even more requests for toys this year. This will be a difficult Christmas for many families and the church needs help from the community more than ever.
Donations may be dropped off at the Avon, Brownsburg, and Plainfield branches of First Merchants Bank; at Frazee Gardens on State Road 267 in Brownsburg; in the main lobby of the Hendricks County Fairgrounds and Conference Center; and at the new Dollar General store in Danville.
