— Gordon E. Delks Jr. died Dec. 30, 2012, at his home in Plainfield. He was 89.

Born June 23, 1923, in Indianapolis, he was a son of the late Gordon E. Delks Sr. and Martha A. Phillips.

Mr. Delks was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving as a cryptographer during World War II. After being discharged, he worked for the New York Central Railroad which later became Conrail then CSX. He retired in 1984 as a conductor after 37 years of service.

His early years in Plainfield were spent coaching baseball. More recently, he worked part-time at Big 4 Hobbies in Plainfield.

Mr. Delks was an avid model car/train builder and collector. He was a member of several local model clubs.

Survivors include a daughter, Crystal Thompson and husband David of Greenwood; stepsons Ed (Marianne) Wade and wife Marianne of Plainfield and Tim Wade and wife Julia of Avon; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were sisters Eileen Gabbard and Adria Waggoner; a brother, Robert Lee Delks; and his ex-wife, Addie M. Beason Wade.

There will be a memorial service Jan. 8 at the Plainfield Interurban Depot, 401 S. Vine St., Plainfield. Calling will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the service at 6 p.m.
