Sarah J. (Doub) Shrum

Sarah J. (Doub) Shrum died Monday in the Indiana Masonic Home at Franklin. She was 88.

Born March 4, 1924, in Franklin, she was a daughter of the late Virgil and Elva (Sefton) Doub.

Mrs. Shrum was a 1942 New Winchester High School graduate. She worked for Arvins, then with Gateway Services as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1989. After a couple of years, she decided to work again, this time for 11 years in the Franklin College cafeteria.

Her memberships included the Whiteland Jubilee Lodge — Eastern Star, Johnson County Home Extension, and Community Congregational Church in Franklin.

Survivors include children Jerry (Janet) Shrum of Franklin, Darlene (Larry) Bethke of Tennessee, Peggy Riddle of Indianapolis, and Sandra (Perry) Heaton of Kentucky; a sister-in-law, Jane Doub of North Salem; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A sister, Lucile Lancaster, and brothers John, Virgil N., and Clarence Doub preceded her in death.

Services are 11 a.m. Nov. 9 in Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. 31 N., where friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Nov. 8. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
