Helen D. (Gann) Whetstone of Clayton died Saturday. She was 93.
Born Jan. 15, 1920, in Owensboro, Ky., she was a daughter of Pertle Tatum and Margaret (Johnson) Gann. She married Leroy Whetstone on Aug. 28, 1938. He died Oct. 26, 1986.
Mrs. Whetstone earned bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education and art from Indiana University. She taught elementary education and art at Brentwood Elementary School in Plainfield from 1970 until retiring in '83.
Her memberships included Clayton Christian Church, Indiana Artist Association, Indiana China Painters, Indiana Teachers Association, Red Hat Society, and Stilesville Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Hawkins of Avon; a son, Donald Whetstone of Clayton; a sister, June Truax of Lebanon; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were children Dreatha and Kenneth Whetstone and a sister, Beatrice Morris.
Services were Tuesday at Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home in Clayton, with visitation there from 11 a.m. until service time. Graveside services are 1 p.m. today at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown.
