Phillip Dean Hinds of Marion

Phillip Dean Hinds of Marion died April 9 in St. Vincent Hospital. He was 81.

Born in Huntington County, he was the son of the late John and Geraldine (Stout) Hinds. He married Gayle K. Manning and she survives.

Mr. Hinds graduated from Banquo High School in 1950. He

was previously employed with Benic Enterprises, Fairmount, Wimmer Lime Service, and Red Gold.

In his earlier years he enjoyed farming. He was a member of Lakeview Wesleyan Church in Marion. He also enjoyed NASCAR, basketball, and the Colts. Mr. Hinds loved working in his flower garden and was an avid student of the Grant County Plat book.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, David A. (Kathy) Hinds of Marion; daughter, Jackie S. (Doug) Carl of Marion; daughter-in-law, Shari M. Hinds of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Kristi L. (Kelsy) Zumbrun of South Bend, Matthew D. (Andrea) Hinds of Upland, Blake D. Carl of Marion, Michael A. Stalnaker of Mishawaka, Andrew D. Stalnaker of Brownsburg, Dean A. Hinds of Brownsburg, Jessie L. Hinds of Brownsburg; great grandsons, Justin T. Zumbrun, Zachary B. Zumbrun, and Carter M. Zumbrun; great granddaughter, Ella Rose Hinds; sister, Becky Manning of Marion; sister-in-law, Marilyn (Jim) Hix of Dalton, Ga.; brother-in-law, Phil (Carolyn) Manning of Columbia City; and nieces and nephews, Reece (Trisha) Manning, Randy Manning, Richard Manning, Nicole (Clinton) Mackey, Kathy (Bill) Wimmer, Kim Johnson, Kevin Hix, and Kris (Kim) Hix.

Mr. Hinds was awaiting the arrival of great grandson, Eli, in July.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, Opal Hinds; and son, Jerry L. Hinds.

Services will be at 10 a.m. April 14 in Lakeview Wesleyan Church, 5316 South Western Avenue in Marion, with the Revs. Tom Robbins, Ron Meyer, and Tim McClellan officiating. Burial will be in Van Buren Cemetery in Van Buren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. April 13 in the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lakeview Wesleyan Church, 5316 S. Western Avenue, Marion, IN 46953.

Arrangements were entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service in Marion.
