Leah L. Abrams of Plainfield died Oct. 17, after a brief battle with cancer. She was 74.

Born Dec. 1, 1937, in Watertown, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Saul and Elvina Mindling.

Mrs. Abrams was a language graduate of Ohio University and Butler University. She was an English and German teacher at Speedway High School for 40 years where she was named Teacher of the Year on several occasions.

Upon retirement, she joined the Indianapolis Symphony Association (West Group). In 2009, she was named "West Group Volunteer of the Year" for her chair services.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James Abrams.

Survivors include her brother and his wife, Charles and Maxine Mindling, and numerous cousins.

A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield. Inurment was at Field of Valor at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Calling at the funeral home is for an hour prior to the service.
