Betty Jean Meece died June 28. She was 86.
Born Betty Jean Henderson, in Norman, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Naomi Henderson. She married Lowell Meece and he survives. They were married for 68 years.
Mrs. Meece moved to the Indianapolis area and enjoyed her job as a ward secretary for many years at IU Hospital. She volunteered weekly for nearly 20 years at the Poor People Action Council passing out food and clothing to the needy.
She was a member of Mt. Calvary Church where she was very active.
She is also survived by grandsons, Christopher Meece and Noah East; granddaughters, Melisa Greenwell (Tim), Hannah Meece (Mike Miller); great grandchildren, Gia Mattei, Gavin Marsh, Owen Meece, and Austin Miller, three great great grandchildren, Isabella, Gabriel, and Sophia. Her siblings include brothers, Jimmy, Gerald, Kenny, and Johnny.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Donald, and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joe and Ella Klausner.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. July 3 at Conkle Funeral Home, Avon Chapel. Burial will be in Fairfield Friends Cemetery in Camby.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. July 2 in the funeral home.
