John R. “Pete” Hughes of Brownsburg died May 11, 2013.

Born in Cairo, Ill., he was a son of the late John and Lottie Hughes.

Mr. Hughes served as a medic in World War II and then worked for the New York Central Railroad as well as the Ransburg Corporation. For 32 years, he and his wife Patricia (Hall) Hughes ran their own business called J. Bob’s in Nashville, Ind.

He was a 50-year member of the Cairo, Ill., Masonic Lodge No. 237.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years; children

Lynda (Larry) Myers, Donald (JoAnn) Hughes, and Sherrill (Barry) Gunn; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were sisters Ethelyn Mae and Helen Louise, and grandson, Andy Myers.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
