John P. Wampler

John P. Wampler of Avon died early Monday morning in the Mill Pond Nursing Home in Greencastle. He was 80.

Born Nov. 8, 1932, in Gosport, he was a son of the late John W. Wampler and Lois (Allee) Wampler. He married Avery Hirt and she survives.

Mr. Wampler served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for more than 50 years in the home improvement business.

He was a member of the Stilesville Christian Church and his hobbies included sitting at the Amo General Store and woodworking.

Additional survivors include daughters Julia Matlock and husband Bill of Stilesville, Jennifer Greeson and husband Kelly of Amo, and Laura Ward and husband Bill of Amo; a son, Jim Wampler and wife Cindy of Zionsville; grandchildren Joshua Glaze of Brownsburg, Sarah Hibdon and husband Casey of Brownsburg, Cassie Greeson of Amo, Nicholas Greeson of Amo, Jason Wampler and wife Tess of West Virginia, Hillary Tomblin of Amo, Mary Tomblin of Amo, Trent Tomblin of Amo, Zachary Wampler of Zionsville, and Bennett Wampler of Zionsville; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were a son, John W. Wampler, and brothers Thomas, Don, and Dave Wampler.

Services are 6 p.m. Wednesday at Bousley-Hays Funeral Home with the Rev. Shelly Zook officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Amo Cemetery.

Calling is for four hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
