Mildred Marie “Midge” Harlos

Mildred Marie “Midge” Harlos died Friday at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon. She was 95.

She was born May 8, 1917, in Boone County, on a farm that her parents obtained through a land grant.  She was a daughter of the late Asa Clarence and Della Elzina (Roth) Warren. She married Glen Lavere Harlos on Sept. 26, 1940, and he died Jan. 5, 2005.

Mrs. Harlos was a 1933 graduate of Lebanon High School and The Approved University of Beauty Culture in Indianapolis. As a Master Hair and Cosmetologist, she was self employed at her home near North Salem for several years. She also worked for the state as an inspector of beauty salons.

Following her marriage, she and her husband farmed in Putnam County near North Salem until Mr. Harlos retired in 1984. The couple moved to Lebanon about 1986. Prior to Mr. Harlos’ passing, they sold more than 100 acres of land to the Hendricks County Park Division for what is now known as McCloud Nature Park.

Mrs. Harlos enjoyed crafts, hobbies, and flower gardening. In addition, she enjoyed living and participating at Crown Pointe where she considered all residents and staff as part of her family. Through the Friendly Visitor’s Program, she became connected with Jeannie Brandenburg. What began as a casual friendship grew into a loving relationship as Mrs. Brandenburg became a surrogate daughter to her.

Mrs. Harlos was a member of Lebanon Christian Church, Roachdale Order of the Eastern Star, Auxiliary to VFW in Lebanon, and Delta Theta Tau Sorority.

Survivors include a brother-in-law, James Harlos of Advance; a sister-in-law, Mary Frances Martin of Bowling Green; a niece, Judy Duren and husband Bernie of Fredericksburg, Va.; nieces-in-law, Cindy Warren of Lafayette and Susie Warren of Lebanon; great-nephews, Michael Warren Jr. of Whitestown, Joe Warren and wife Rachael of Frankfort, and Matthew Duren and wife Tiffany of Elkridge, Md.; great-nieces Kelly Rojas and husband Tony of Virginia Beach, Va., Angie Mixson and husband Will of Lebanon, and Missy Warren of Canada; and friend Jeannie Brandenburg of Lebanon.
