Rachel Catherine “Katie” Crowder Sandlin Boehm of Plainfield died May 2 at Plainfield Health and Rehab. She was 96.
Born Feb. 15, 1918, in Fountain County, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Maude Witsman Crowder.
Mrs. Boehm was the co-owner of The Beech Grove Cab Company and drove a cab for the company while married to her first husband, Ernie Sandlin.
Later in life, she held the position of collection associate at Mutual Hospital Services from 1967 until her retirement in 1986 at the age of 68.
She was a member of Plainfield Hope Presbyterian Church where she volunteered her services as well as volunteer at Plainfield Health and Rehab until her health became a factor.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Crane, New Paris, Ohio; Melinda (Rodrigo) Garcia, Avon; son-in-law, John (Shirley) Vanniman, Acworth, Ga.; sister, Vera Brooks, Watervliet, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Also preceding her in death was her daughter, Tawana Sandlin; her second husband of 31 years, Edward W. Boehm; and son-in-law, Richard Crane.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. May 7 in Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135 in Greenwood. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until time of service in the funeral home.
