Kathleen “Katie” W. Shaw of Danville died April 5 in Hendricks Regional Health. She was 94.

Born Nov. 29, 1919, in Oden, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Augusta Keller Williams. She married John E. Shaw in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 6, 1942. He preceded her in death March 29, 2007.

Mrs. Shaw was a 1937 graduate of Danville High School. She earned her bachelor of arts degree from Central Normal College in Danville in 1941 and earned her master degree in library science from Indiana University.

During her 40 year teaching career, Mrs. Shaw taught high school English, Latin, and physical education in Indiana schools in Morristown, Clayton, Wayne Township, and Indianapolis. She taught in Ben Davis High School, Ben Davis Junior High School, and Fleming Garden. She also served for several years as the librarian at Maplewood Elementary School in Indianapolis.

She was an active member in the Danville Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. She was a member of Psi Chi Sorority at Central Normal College, Tri Kappa Sorority, and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.

Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne K. Shaw of Danville; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Daphne, Francis, Enid, Landowska, Guy, Emil, Woody, and Charles Milton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. April 12 in Baker Funeral Home in Danville. Burial will be in Danville South Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
