John Robert Sunderlin of Mooresville died Saturday. He was 82 and had formerly resided in Chicago and St. Petersburg, Fla.
Born Oct. 13, 1930, in Chicago, he was a son of the late Gustav and Augusta Sunderlin.
He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, retiring as a sergeant first class. He worked 20 years in management for Service Master Corp. before retiring in 1992.
Mr. Sunderlin moved to Indiana in 1999, where he became a life member of the Mooresville American Legion Post 103 and the VFW Post 1111. He was a member of the Waukegan Swedish Glee Club, the Sun Coast Singers, and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights, Ill.
Survivors include a son, Robert G. Sunderlinand wife Catherine of Plainfield; a daughter, Heidi Lykken and husband Luke of Illinois; a sister, Helen Roppolo and husband Tony of Marco Island, Fla.; grandchildren Robert J. and Alex T.; Lloyd, Kristian, Emily, Luke, and Easton; and a companion, Betty Record of Mooresville.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Waltraud (Unger) Sunderlin, and siblings Astrid, Irene, Ina, Rose, and Gus.
Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville is handling private services.
