Norma Jane (Thompson) McHargue of Avon and formerly of Brazil died Dec. 18 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was 86.
Born Sept. 8, 1927, in Mishawaka, she was the daughter of the late Arthur R. and Hila (Gum) Thompson. She married Charles A. “Charlie” McHargue on June 16, 1951. He preceded her in death July 4, 2004.
Mrs. McHargue graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1945. She worked for Clay Community Schools as a cook for more than 25 years. She enjoyed working word puzzles and crocheting. She was also an avid Indiana Pacers fan.
Mrs. McHargue was a member of the Berea Christian Church and more recently had attended the East Side Christian Church.
She is survived by her son, Charles (Linda) McHargue; a nephew, Ron (Linda) Harms; granddaughters, Maggie (friend Matt Stewart) McHargue, Martina (Zac) Buher; and one great grandson Landon Buher; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Imogene Harms; and two brother-in-laws, Otto R. Harms and Jack E. McHargue.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 23 at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., in Brazil, with the Rev. Bill Brock officiating. Burial will follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 22 in the funeral home.
