Norma Jean Curtis of Avon

Norma Jean Curtis of Avon died Nov. 28. She was 88.

Born Feb. 22, 1925, in Oblong, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Homer and Blanche (Dennis) Wiley. She married Charles Curtis and he survives. They were married for 67 years.

Mrs. Curtis graduated from Oblong Township High School in 1942 and worked as a train master’s clerk for the Illinois Central Railroad in Palestine, Ill., from 1944 to ’46.

She enjoyed needlework, cooking, playing pinochle, and Bingo. She was a member of John Know Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Curtis and her husband spent part of their time in Bradenton, Fla., from 1982 until moving there full time in ’92. They returned to the Indianapolis area in 2006.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Judy (Peter) Ricketts; daughter-in-law, Sharon Curtis; sisters, Becky Engel of Danville, Ill., and Sue Clark of Robinson, Ill.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joe Curtis; a brother, Bill Wiley; and sisters, Pat Bartlow and Mary Hargis.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at John Know Presbyterian Church. Burial of cremated remains will take place following in Roselawn Cemetery in Terre Haute.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Curtis/Ricketts Continuing Education Scholarship at John Knox Church, 3000 North High School Road, Indianapolis.
