Mary Jane Weathers of Plainfield died Dec. 6. She was 88.
Born Dec. 12, 1924, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of the late George and Betsy (McCray) Cass.
Mrs. Weathers was elected and served Hendricks County for more than 20 years. She held the offices of treasurer and auditor.
A musician, she was a member of several music societies and local orchestras. She played more than 30 years with the Family Reunion String Band at the Indiana State Fair, Central Indiana Folk music/Mountain Dulcimer Society, The Noble Melton Fiddle band, and the Indianapolis Jazz Society.
She was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash, The Association of Indiana Counties Inc., and Arthur R. Himsel award.
Survivors include her son, Daniel (Kathy) Weathers; granddaughters, Jennifer Ervin (Bill Turnbill) and Kimberly (Jeff) Woodward; six great grandchildren; cousin, Betty (Harold) Apple; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Melba Grey.
A celebration of life will take place at 2 p.m. Dec. 10 at Conkle Funeral Home in Avon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
