Clarence Bernard (Bernie) Casselman Jr. died March 8. He was 90.
He married Phyllis (Taylor) Casselman and she preceded him in death. He later married Betty Casselman and she survives.
Mr. Casselman was born Jan. 14, 1924, in Indianapolis. He went to Shortridge High School and Central Normal College where he was the captain of the football, basketball, and baseball teams.
Mr. Casselman served in the U.S. Army. He then began his teaching career in several towns in Hendricks County including Lizton, Amo, and Plainfield. He was a principal and coached several different sports in Plainfield.
His teaching career then took him to the Indianapolis Public Schools system where he served as a teacher and principal. He retired from IPS after nearly 40 years of service. He was voted teacher of the year in his final year of teaching.
Mr. Casselman loved playing bridge and was a Gold Life Master. He taught, coached, and mentored many young people.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Bruce and David Casselman; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald L. Casselman.
Services will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. March 29 in the Kingsway Christian Church Chapel, 7981 E. County Road 100 N., in Avon.
